Byronic/Romantic Hero

Recently I have become very much interested in the literary figure of the Byronic Hero. It started with my English 4480 class when we began to discuss Lord Byron and who he was. Although this is not the first time that I heard theis term, it was the first time that I became excited about it. When discussing who and what the Byronic hero was, it made me think about other novels I had read and one in paeticualr popped into my head, Paradise Lost. This is one of my all time favorite piece of literature. I slowly began to realize that Satan was none other than a Byronic hero! This got my head churning and I decided to do research on the Byronic hero, Byron, Paradise Lost and the novel we were reading at the time, The Sorrows of Young Werther. I will definately be teaching my student about this once I enter the teaching world!

Field Experience

My field so far has been very interesting. My first real day was today and the students were awesome, but very animated. My introduction was a funny experience. The first question that the students asked me was how old I was. I thought that if I went to a middle school instead of a high school, that that question would not come up. I was so wrong. I later found out that they thought I was around 16 or so. I figured that might happen. I wonder how the high school students will perceive me if the middle school students think I look young. We later proceeded into asking the students their question that they had and we had a practice session of what and how the group tutorials would work. Middle school students are very lively and and their attention span isn’t as focused as a high school student, but they are eager to learn. I hope this experience gives me an idea of what teaching will be like. I am currently looking to teach high school english and latin but I feel that I have to understand middle school students first to understand high school students.

Bad Math Student or……

I learned one of the sweetest theories about children and learning the other day in my Education class. Prof. Marks told us that just because a child makes a horrible grade in a certain classes, mostly conceptual classes like math, doesn’t mean that the child is bad at that subject. It just means that their brains aren’t developed enough to reason with the problem. This helped me understand my younger brother. He is the youngest in his grade. In his 5th grade class, he always made C’s or F’s on his math test no matter how much studying he did. He was held back for another year and still somewhat struggled. 6th grade was no walk in the park either. Now he is in the 7th grade and he has an 89 in his math class. This definatley makes sense because he was almost a year behind his peers age wise and development wise. Now that he is with his age group and his brain is more developed, he can understand the concepts! I dunno. I thought that was the most amazing thing. I had to tell my whole familyand I explained to my brother that he isn’t bad at math. He was soooo happy.

WELL I USED TO THINK BLOGGING WAS FOR GEEKS WHO HAD TOO MUCH TIME ON THEIR HANDS, BUT I GUESS NOT. I MEAN, IT’S KINDA FUN. I AM OFFICIALLY A NOOB………I THINK THAT THIS CLASS WILL FINALLY TEACH ME MORE ABOUT THE INTERNET AND COMPUTERS. I’M NOT COMPLETLY OBLIVIOUS AND IGNORANT WHEN IT COMES TO TECHNOLOGY, BUT IF IT ISN’T AN EMAIL, FACEBOOK OR GOOGLE SEARCHING, I DON’T REALLY USE THE NET. I’M READY FOR A CHALLENGE…………
